Rose in TimeRose Green loves living in the past; it’s the present she has trouble with.
It's 1994 and she’s working at a trendy Cambridge restaurant while dreaming of studying the Classics. Of course, in order to get into graduate school, the first step is to actually apply. But she's plagued by a persistent cough that threatens her hostessing job, her love life, and her determination to apply to Harvard. Rose’s friend Gloria offers an explanation for Rose’s cough: Rose is an empath, absorbing the emotional pain of people she encounters every day. Rose scoffs, but she’s desperate enough to visit Visible Effects, the organization Gloria suggests near Harvard Square. At VE, to her initial skepticism and growing astonishment, Rose discovers reincarnation is more than a hypothetical. Rose learns to time travel, helping the past incarnations of people struggling around her. As she interacts with their previous selves, their current troubles and Rose’s cough evaporate. At first it's fantastic – she can experience life in the past! But as she falls in love in the present, with Oscar, a charming British Classicist, she keeps getting pulled into her own past, and coming face to face with a mysterious man from the future, intent on keeping her from Visible Effects. |
